Love this time of year when the weather plays ball, there is very often great fishing, and indeed, there has been great fishing for sure…… With the water temp still good for another while yet, prospects look good short term for my last guided crew of the season. Lately though, some rare spare time, coinciding with a decent weather window for a good days fishing came at short notice, so I made the most of it arranging a session to catch up with a couple fishing friends old, & new. Last week I met lough Derg predator guide Pierre Monjarret, & his dog “Guinness”, via a mutual friend, its always interesting meeting fellow guides, sharing experience’s they’ve had with fish, & folk alike….. We all had to wrap up well in warm clothing for the hardy Winter morning, and it was off to the chilly Wexford shoreline we ventured, where on arrival we seen a lot of fish activity, albeit mostly Mullet, but I told Pierre, as I have many others, “Bass, & Mullet often roll together”. As usual the trick is not to spook them, with many eyes looking out for danger, we all quietly got into position with our chosen sub surface lures, the low lying shining Winter sun really enhanced the lures in almost 3D motion, and it wasn’t long before he met his first Wexford Bass with an aggressive take,& feisty scrap, followed by a couple more, with a quick pic, and speedy release…..
Before a “double hook-up” with myself, funnily enough it’s been quite a year for double hook-ups, like buses nothing for ages, then they all come along together…. Of course you’ll notice this with a couple of anglers fishing.
Fishing, catching up with friends old,& new, Winter sunshine, & some fish….. All makes for the Perfect Day.
And best of all, it’s not over yet!!
