On The Ground….

Anyone who ever made any inroads into “Salty Trout” angling did so by putting in a lot time, and hard yards “On The Ground”, so to speak, usually over decades often on a solitary quest. Determination, was their best asset by far, and didn’t give in to frustration, but instead admired their quarry, even when they would make him feel foolish, beaten, time, and time again. But, by putting in the time, with a very determined effort, the breaks would come, patterns emerged, consistent results came. Although, they might of ended up a little bit crazy themselves, it was no wonder as they were chasing a crazy fish after all.        You very much get the fish you deserve with Sea-Trout. You’ll work for them for sure……

Observations “On The Ground” early last season, it was noted that a “Glut” of these young Mullet (note spines) were available fodder to “Salty’s” from mid Feb through to Apr, whatever the reason they were there at that time of year I don’t know, but they were there, and the Trout were taking full advantage of the bounty presented to them. So then, It was no mystery why Bait fish patterns out fished Eel patterns for a change, at that time…

Salmo Trutta is a master of adapting, be it in a Mountain stream, or the open Ocean, and will likewise adapt quickly to a different food source…. I’ve never realy been a “Fly Snob” so to speak, basic patterns have always served me well, I would put more of the emphasis on the movement of the Fly on its path through the water, across the flows over the expected taking spots, and “Lies”, instead of trusting the “Latest” Fly too much…. I often wonder just how much detail most of them see on a Fly against the skyline, from the distance, or starting point from where they launch their strike on it….. OH, if you could only get one to talk, lol……..

They have many Enemy’s, and Only a very, very Few will make it back to a Freshwater source to Reproduce, and carry on the Cycle.   So take care of them…….
